Ngorongoro Conservation Are

Overview

Adjacent to the Serengeti lies the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a unique protected region where wildlife coexists with the Maasai people. The jewel of this area is the Ngorongoro Crater, a massive, intact volcanic caldera teeming with a remarkable concentration of animals. Often called “Africa’s Garden of Eden,” the crater floor provides exceptional year-round wildlife viewing, including a significant population of the endangered black rhino.
Beyond the crater’s rim, the Conservation Area encompasses the significant archaeological site of Olduvai Gorge, offering profound insights into human evolution, as well as the scenic Ngorongoro Highlands and the alkaline Lake Natron.
